Funding for learning disabilities
The Department of Health today (Tuesday 20 December) announced the successful bidders to a £25m government fund with North Somerset being awarded £213,000.
The money will go towards four projects which will support people with learning difficulties to gain as much independence as possible, through accommodation and use of assistive technology. The projects are:
- £60,000 for a Shared Lives project to fund the conversion of carers’ properties so that people with learning difficulties and physical disabilities can benefit from respite opportunities
- £50,000 for ‘just checking’ equipment which will help to identify what equipment would benefit people in supported living arrangements to maximise their independence
- £63,000 for assistive technology equipment to support people with learning difficulties to live more independently
- £40,000 for assistive technology for people with complex needs who are living in new supported living environments.
Cllr Dawn Payne, executive member for adult social services, said: “We welcome today’s funding announcement which will benefit people with learning difficulties who use Shared Lives and are in supported living arrangements. The money will be used for several projects, all of which will help people live more independently.”
The projects will be carried out by North Somerset Council, the Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities and We Care and Repair between now and March 2018.
