Enter and View - Backwell Surgery
At Backwell Medical Centre the team made notes of all their observations of the building, the reception area and the waiting room as well as what information was available to the public. These along with the comments from staff and patients helped shape their recommendations. Some of their observations included
- The outside of the building was smart and well maintained
- There was good wheelchair access
- There was no off street parking, but there were disabled spaces
- Staff were all observed wearing name badges
- The reception desk was low enough for disabled use
- There were plenty of seats in the waiting room
- There was no background music
- GP or nurse came to personally call the patient in rather than using the TV screen
- All information displayed on boards was relevant to health and social care
- All the information displayed was kept up to date
The recommendations that were sent to the surgery following the visit included
- The toilets (Including disabled and baby changing) are only signposted from the reception. Signs in the waiting room would be beneficial
- Names and pictures of the staff could be displayed somewhere
- There was no information available about a hearing loop system
- The waiting area was very quiet and consequently the staff at reception could be easily overheard, background music could help elevate this
- There was no statements that all the information was available in other formats, which would be helpful for some patients.
We received a response from the surgery advising that they had taken the recommendatons on board and they were either implemented immediatley, such as notices for the toilets or in the process of sorting it, such as getting the hearing loop up and running.
