Five organised walks are taking place in Weston-super-Mare, Portishead, Nailsea, Clevedon and Long Ashton early in January as part of the Festival of Winter Walks, organised by the Ramblers.

The walks will start at the following locations:

  • Weston-super-Mare – The Campus, Highlands Lane on Wednesday 3 January
  • Portishead – Somerset Hall, The Precinct on Thursday 4 January
  • Nailsea – Tithe Barn, Church Lane on Friday 5 January
  • Clevedon – Community Centre (Princes Hall), Princes Road on Saturday 6 January
  • Long Ashton – Community Centre, Keedwell Hill on Monday 8 January.

All walks start at 10.30am and will cater for all abilities but with a particular focus on encouraging those who have not walked for some time. Walks will be offered at each location that are 20 minutes, 40 minutes and an hour long.

The walks are being co-ordinated by Kira Thorpe, Sport and Active Lifestyles Officer at North Somerset Council. She said: “Winter is a wonderful time to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air. These walks offer such an easy way, especially for those who have not been active for some time, to get out with friends and family.”

The annual Festival of Winter Walks, funded by the People’s Postcode Lottery, is now in its 30th year. The walks are free and include free refreshments.

To encourage regular walking there will be information about how to join the Ramblers and local Walking for Health groups. Ramblers membership gives access to hundreds of group walks every year, an online library of over 2,500 Ramblers routes, as well as many other benefits.
